He says that? Oh, no... But he did say in an IG story after the march gigs were published that they have lots of concerts booked in the Balkans, so hopefully that helps? Although if none are in Slovenia and they're just playing in festivals elsewhere in the region, that might be a bit hard for some to swallow...

It just doesn't seem to make much sense to play some concerts in the Balkans but not one in Slovenia...

(like Slavoj Žižek explains in that Youtube video) When they say "Balkan" to foreigners, I think it includes Slovenia. But if you speak to Slovenians, you would normally not refer to Slovenia as "Balkan". I know, it's very weird......


Yeah, I'm Confused too.... I find it really weird that they wouldn't play ANY concerts at home during the summer. Even weirder if they would play in other parts of ex-Yu but not Slo. Doesn't make any sense.

 

Yeah, he literally says that, and makes a sad face. It's the last sentence in the clip. Unless, he later said he's not serious or something and they cut it off. Now that would be nasty!

Interesting. I just read an interview from a Finnish band , Blind Channel, and they said the Finnish gigs pays for the ones abroad so domestic festivals are important for them. I would have assumed JO has the same situation. Could he mean that they don’t have own concerts but maybe festivals in Slovenia during the summer? Or maybe they are loaded and don’t need money at the moment

 

No tämä! Samaa olin suunnitellut, mutta ehkä pitää sitten tyytyä käymään muuten vain kylpyläreissulla ja ratsastamassa Sloveniassa. Onneksi suositukset paikkoihin on jo ennalta.

Samat plänit oli täälläkin. Toki jos heillä on keikkaa vaikka Kroatiassa, niin sieltä on monista paikoista tosi lyhyt matka Ljubljanaan, esim. Zagrebista tyyliin 200 km junalla. Eihän se ole sama kuin Slovenian-konsertti, mutta mahdollistaisi Slovenian-reissun ja Balkan-joksut samalla.

 

Minua huvittaa tässä Balkan-hommassa, että kun olin suunnittelemassa muuttoa tänne, niin harmittelin, että sitten olen siellä Joksu-alueella, mutta en varmaan onnistu heitä näkemään mitenkään ja Suomessa se onnistuisi paljon paremmin. Toki Suomessa olisi ollut huomattavasti helpompaa, mutta tosiaan tänne muuttaessa luulin, etten voi päästä Belgradn-keikalle, koska sinne menee vain koko päivän kestävä tosi hankala vaihdollinen yhteys. Edes Belgradissa asuva ystäväni (jolla on useita läheisiä ystäviä asuinkaupungissani) ei tiennyt, että oli tullut suorakin bussiyhteys. Skopje taas ei olisi tullut edes mieleen paikkana, jossa Joksut voisi oikeasti esiintyä, koska ei heillä olisi tuolla ikinä normaalia keikkaa.

Tämä on muuten Skopjen linja-autoaseman virallisilta englanninkielisiltä sivuilta. "It is a bus station that implements most of timetables, both domestically abroad. There is no greater place in the country to which no timetable from Skopje to him and vice versa. It should also be noted that the bus stop riding and international timetables."

I was thinking the same thing. Maybe they play only at some festivals in Slovenia? But whole year without own gig in Slovenia... ?

B:llä ei tosiaan vaikuta olevan tukoksia reaalimaailmankaan perusteella. Niin avoimesti ja suorasanaisesti hän on viime aikoina kommentoinut erilaisia asioita.

 

Minäkin suunnittelin reissua Sloveniaan ensi kesänä. Oli kyllä aikomus käydä muuallakin mut ilman muuta ajatuksena oli päästä myös JO:n keikalle nimenomaan heidän kotikentällään. Ai hitsit, yhtäkkiä muistin, että näin viime yönä todella outoa unta, jossa uusi palsta oli valmis (en ole sen rakentaja), ja se sivusto oli tosi erikoinan, siellä oli ikään kuin jotain Ghostbusters-kuvastoa (wtf?!), mutta ennen kaikkea se olikin sellainen, jossa juteltiin videopuhelun kautta, siis kaikki oli naamoineen livenä juttelemassa, mutta tästä muistan vain LG:n, joka oli heti ekana siinä mukana. LG oli vaalea, oli ehkä siniset silmät ja lyhyttä partaa&viiksiä, tosi ystävällisen näköinen, ihana hymy. Sori LG että lainasin sua uneeni, oot varmaan oikeasti ihan eri näköinen, joten toivottavasti tuo kuvaus ei haittaa

My general comments about the interview:

We know the media culture is different in Finland vs Slovenia, we've discussed this before. I would be very much interested in listening to some of the more "serious" Finnish interviews, for example, politicians being interviewed before Parliamentary elections and stuff like that, I think it would be super interesting to compare with Slovenian.
But back to our topic.
The way I see it (in general), in Slovenia, there are "serious" music interviews, and then there are "non-serious" and then there's trash shows. The way I see it - I think it would be completely inappropriate to ask questions that this particular guy asks at the JO press conference after Stožice, for example. That event was to talk about their music only, achieving something great.
There were 2 good interviews just before Stožice as well, one with Jana Morelj from Radio 1 and another one with a guy with really short hair, I can't remember his name. Those were considered "serious" music interviews, they didn't ask any intrusive/personal questions at all, and they never would. Their audience doesn't expect it.
Then there's shows like this one and that Amaro guy who grilled him about sleeping with Melani.
Are these questions intrusive? Yes, of course. But it's all expected. They know these interviewers. JO know what they are in for. They are prepared for the most part. And I really doubt any of these interviewers is expecting JO (or any celeb) to reveal anything very personal. They are just asking questions the fans want them to ask. Which girl doesn't want to know if they are single or not? I see it as a game, a show. They ask, the celebs are challenged to give a certain answer (whether they give a vague answer, or they answer with a question etc it depends on their skills - and we know B does very well here) They rarely reveal anything. And if one decides to indeed reveal something for whatever reason, that's fine as well, I'm sure they have reasons to.


As for this guy in particular, I don't see him as mean or anything. If anything, I couldn't help but laugh because he seems so nervously excited when he asks some of the questions that it made me think he might be gay himself and is crushing on B or JO in general. I almost feel embarrassed for this guy, I mean, come on dude, keep it cool.


I can't say if they are annoyed, they are definitely handling this interview like true professionals, especially B. Maybe Jan seems bored with the questions. But we know Jan often seems like he's not "there" at interviews, even when they are not on this level.

Thanks you so much LadySLO for your long and well thought answer, it really gave us a good insight for slovenian media culture. And it was also good to see this JO interviewer in a wider context (and understand his questions) so he doesn't seem so mean anymore. You are probably right: he must be one heck of a fan girl himself!!

Do you feel like it's possible (or has it ever been mentioned) that considering his roots, Bojan (also) celebrates Christmas at the Orthodox Christmas date either with his parents or some other family members? Since Serbians celebrate on the 7th of January and if Google is right, people in Bosnia can celebrate on either date depending on their religion/heritage. At least to me that'd make sense.

(Well, it's not really just only a fic question, since if he has an important family tradition that could suggest he wouldn't leave for London before that, but it's also for the story. )

Yes! I think it is not only possible, but very likely. I'm basing this opinion on people in my wider circle of people I know - basically all Serbians in Slovenia I know celebrate Orthodox Christmas AND Orthodox New year.

 

LadySLO: That's what I figured too without knowing anything about it. But would they also celebrate the Western dates as well, getting them two Christmases and two New Years? I hope for the sake of my story there's a celebration at the Western date, too.

That's a good question. I'm less sure of my answer but here we go:

I imagine for that for Western Christmas, they might just have a nice family dinner together, perhaps just parents and sister.
But then for Orthodox Xmas, they celebrate with a wider family, perhaps with grandmother etc.

Western New Year, not sure if B had a gig in the last few years for NY eve, but if not, I would say yes, they definitely celebrate it - if not together, then with friends.

Ja yksi päänvaivoista on ollut se anonyymina kirjoittaminen. En saa poistettua nimi ja sähköposti kohtaa, ne tulevat itsepintaisesti pakotettuina, vaikka pitäisi pystyä kirjoittamaan ilman kirjautumista. Tai sitten ymmärrän koko jutun väärin. Mutta tämän voisi ehkä tehdä niin että jos kaikki kirjoittavat esim. nimeksi Vieras ja jonkun tietyn sovitun sähköpostin, niin silloin ne kaikki ovat samanlaisia Vieraita. Pitkät lainaukset toimii, mutta sivu venyy silloin pahimmillaan tolkuttoman pitkäksi. Lyhyet lainaukset eivät toimi tällä hetkellä ollenkaan, lainauksista ei näy kuin pari sanaa ja loput häviää bittiavaruuteen.
