Dear Parents,
We want to share with you some information about Hand, Foot and Mouth disease as it has been of concern in Singapore in recent weeks. We have had 5 cases but we have taken precautionary measures in our classrooms by sanitizing toys and equipment.
Hand, Foot and Mouth is an airborne viral disease. It is transmitted through direct contact. The incubation period is one to seven days. Please monitor your child for the following symptoms. Children should not be brought to school if they have:
. Fever
. Red spots and blisters - like rashes on the hands, feet or buttocks
. Mouth ulcers
. Sore throat
. Runny nose
. Vomiting and diarrhea
. A general feeling of being unwell
. Or, are under medication, especially those containing sedatives or antibiotics
All children who have had HFMD must bring a Doctor's note to our school nurse, Mrs. Lillian Wong, before they can return to class. There will be no admissions without a Doctor's note. Siblings are also asked to remain at home until the child with the infection has been certified by a doctor as fit to return to school.
We will continue with the following preventive measures:
. Classrooms and equipment are cleaned and disinfected.
. We encourage children to use water bottles with covers.
. Children will use the sanitizing gel in the classroom to clean their hands throughout the day.
. Affected classes do not have water play activities.
. Affected classrooms are cold fogged at night and aired in the mornings.
. Our school nurse, Mrs. Lillian Wong does spot checks of children in the classrooms where there have been cases of HFMD confirmed.
. In addition, all classrooms were cold fogged and aired twice last week.
We ask that you help by checking your child's temperature and monitoring for other HFMD symptoms before coming to school daily. Children displaying any of the symptoms should see a doctor immediately, and should be kept at home, away from other children, until the rash is completely gone. Otherwise, student attendance at school should continue as normal. If you have any questions, please contact our school nurse, Mrs. Wong at 6467 1732 Ext. 222.
Thank you.
