INVITATIONS
A chain of paper dolls in tutus will set the tone for this girls-only fete. For each invitation, fold an 11x17" piece of cardstock or construction paper in fourths, accordion-style. Draw the shape of a ballerina on the top fold. Cut out the figure, keeping the fold intact in at least two places to connect the chain. Cut out small pieces of pink tulle for the "tutus".
Glue a tulle tutu on the top shape, then unfold the invitation so you can glue tutus to the inside shapes. Write party information on each one of the dolls. For example, "You are invited to Susie's Ballerina Birthday Party!" on the first doll; "Date: August 11, 2005" on the second; and so on. Remember to ask guests to dress in their best ballet attire and bring their favorite doll.
DECORATIONS
Ballerinas love pink, so an all pink-and-white theme is perfect. Turn your home into center stage by adorning entryways with pink swags of fabric. For a centerpiece, make petite bouquets of pink and white flowers for each guest. Wrap the stems with pink tulle and place all of the bouquets in a small, clear glass vase. Before the party, let the birthday girl pick out music from her favorite storybook ballets. Burn a CD and play the music in the background throughout the party.
FOOD
Pink lemonade, pink cupcakes with white icing and scoops of strawberry ice cream will coordinate nicely with the pink decorations. To decorate the cupcakes, purchase silver ballet charms (slippers or dancers) from a bead shop. Thread a pink ribbon through each charm and tie in a bow. Set one charm on top of each cupcake for a unique decoration and treasured party favor. Glass jars or bowls filled with pink candies make an easy decoration and snack.
